About Kalanggaman Island

Kalanggaman Island is situated in the beautiful landscape of Palompon, Leyte, Philippines. It is renowned for its clear blue waters, white pulverulent sand, and its elongated sandbars that surround both sides of the majestic island.

Kalanggaman Island is found in the municipality west of Ormoc City. It wasn’t as popular as the beaches of Panglaos and Calaguases, but it recently gained its popularity because of the tourism efforts used to shed light on the beauty of the island.

Originally, this municipality was named Hinablayan and is one of the oldest settlements on the coast of northwestern Leyte. In the olden times, no streets were paved in the area. Rather, it was only a collection of mountain paths, trees, and wild games. Several marine products were also found in the area, which is why fishing was a major source of livelihood here.

Airplane

The fastest way to get to Kalanggaman Island is done if you fly directly to Ormoc City. Ormoc City is the entry path to western Leyte, so it is by far the easiest way to get there. By booking a flight at Cebu Pacific Air, you can easily do this. This is because the aforementioned airline is the only one that flies to Ormoc. First, arrange a flight going to Cebu City. From there, book a connecting flight to Ormoc. Travel time is pretty quick—45 minutes only!

Bus

Upon arriving at the airport, go to the Ormoc van and bus terminal located at the back of the pier in front of Ormoc City Park. By bus, travel time from Ormoc going to Palompon often takes only 1 hour and 30 minutes. Bus fares cost around Php 50-60, while van fares range at Php 100-150. However, it is more convenient to take a van, as buses stop at many towns before the final destination. When you get to Palompon, you’ll then be dropped off at the Town Ecotourism office.

When you get to the Ecotourism Office located at the Freedom Park, settle the entrance fees needed to get into the island. These fees go into the preservation and upkeep of the island.

Small Boat

Besides the conservation fee, you also have to prepare funds for the boat rental. These boats will take you to the breathtaking island of Kalanggaman itself. These rental fees may range from Php 3,000 to Php 4,000, depending on the seating capacity. So, it’s best to travel in big groups to enjoy faster travels.
