Banaue Rice Terraces is the perfect place to explore an exceptional living cultural landscape.Located in the mountainous Banaue in Ifugao province, the Banaue Rice Terraces is a peaceful and majestic cultural heritage built more than 2000 years ago. Despite only using basic tools, the Ifugao people are able to carve this elaborate irrigation system which covers more than 4,000 square miles of mountainside.In 1995, sections of these terraces were added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites. Recently, the local government made efforts to promote sustainable tourism and it became an even more popular destination when it was featured in an Avengers film in 2018.
One of the most popular activities in Banaue Rice Terraces is hiking and sightseeing at Banaue Rice Terraces. There are different sections to this wonder and how long the hiking will depend on what area you want to see. Hapao and Batad are the two famous sections that you may want to visit when you are here. You may either DIY your hike or join tour groups if you want to take the trail to these areas.The other activities that you can do in Banaue is to immerse in the Ifugao culture by visiting cultural villages of the native Tam-Awan or going to the Cordillera Sculpture museum. There are plenty of activities in Banaue Rice Terraces to keep you entertained during your visit. You can also visit this destination any time of the year as it offers different awe-inspiring views depending on the month you went there. The greenest months are from April to July while the gold shades appear in June. Harvesting season is in August. But if you want to enjoy both the view and chill mountain air, November to December is a great time to make your trip.

If you are taking a plane to Cauayan, the only place you can catch a flight is in Manila. It is an hour and fifteen long, then you only need to hire a car to drive you to the Ifugao Rice Terraces. The ride from the airport to Banaue takes about three to four hours.
You may also ride a bus to Banaue. There is minimal price and travel time difference between the two bus lines - Coda Lines and Ohayami - taking you to Banaue. The important thing to note is that Coda only has four buses departing from Manila to Banaue, while Ohayami only has two.
If you are already coming from northwestern parts of Luzon like Vigan and Baguio, take the bus - Ohayami or KMS - from Baguio. They have two to three trips daily. So it is important to secure your bus ticket ahead of time.
If you are taking the bus from Sagada, ride a jeepney to Bontoc first then take the bus to Banaue. Jeepneys leave as early as 6:30 am so you can start your trip early but don't worry because there is a jeepney available every half hour but only until 9 to 1 pm. Upon arrival in Banaue, pay the admission fee (P20) and you can check into your accommodation and hike to the rice terraces.
The most popular part of this cultural landscape is the Batad Rice Terraces. To get there, ride a jeepney or a tricycle from the Banaue Public Market to Batad.
